Domestic Violence Advocacy Program

The Domestic Violence Program is a  division of the Office of the Sheriff, Franklin County VA.  This program provides victims of domestic violence with court accompaniment, information and referral and support to individuals who find themselves in this difficult dynamic.  The staff is a civilian employee who helps individuals navigate through the  criminal justice system.  Domestic Violence advocacy includes assistance with filing for protective orders, accompaniment to criminal cases (i.e. assault and battery), and safety planning.  

Lethality Assessment Program (LAP)

It is the policy of the Office of the Sheriff, Franklin County, VA to use the Lethality Screen at the scene of a domestic violence incident to identify victims of domestic violence in potentially lethal situations, and follow the established criteria to place those victims in immediate and direct contact with a domestic violence service program hotline advocate. Officers administering the Lethality Screen shall ask the victim the Lethality Screen and, when a victim is assessed as being in High-Danger, call Franklin County Family Resource Center and ask the victim to speak with a hotline advocate.
